INSPIRATION

Inspiration - Retro Gaming

Developers from the conception age of video games struggled, like really struggled. The sheer lack of hardware alone back then makes optimising your Unity game for mobile now seem a tiny bit laughable.

The point being that along with all the tech problems these early pioneers juggled with, they couldn’t hide behind fancy 3d graphics or epic particle effects.

This made the core gameplay, for the ones that got it right of course, pretty epic. Now don’t get me wrong, there have been 10’s of thousands of terrible games, but then again, there still is now. For the games that did get it right, Pong, Pacman, Space Invaders and Arkanoid to name but a few, they managed to make their games super enjoyable and fun by gameplay alone.

This is what we’re looking for when we’re searching for inspiration from these past trailblazers. What can we see that would still hold up today if it had a fresh lick of paint?

The most famous example has to be Frogger and Crossy Road, a perfect example of re-imagining the old to the new and take the market by storm and achieve ridiculous success leading to an entire IP spin off with Disney.
